I went to Safeway tonight and noticed a bag of Starbucks Christmas Blend coffee beans. At first I thought this was an excellent counterexample of Mr. Martin's statements, but then I remembered that they have a Holiday Blend coffee as well! I would invite you to check out the two webpages devoted to marketing these products:

Starbucks Christmas Blend Coffee
Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee

Notice anything fishy? The comment from Robin in Elgin, IL is perhaps the most telling). Clearly Starbucks is not taking a stance in this holy war. Cowards.

Yeah, this isn't the first time I've read about someone flipping out over this issue, but it is the first time I wondered aloud if it actually is an issue.

Must be a NY thing. We have a rather prevalent Jewish community out here, not to mention a good number of atheists. I could just scan through the local news for you some time and get a few dozen instances over the last few years of people flipping out because teachers acknowledge Christmas, stores have Christmas decorations only, or co-workers' workspaces are decorated for Christmas.
